We have great students here in Pleasantville ISD, but how can we increase student learning and standardized test scores? Today’s school librarians positively impact student learning. We can transform teaching which benefits not only students but educators as well. I know many people still think of libraries as places with old dusty books and shushing librarians, but our libraries are 21st century libraries and we take students and teachers on wonderful journeys to help them with their informational needs. As an administrator, I know you’re interested in student and teacher achievement. Studies have found a direct, positive correlation between certified school librarians and reading scores. A study in Colorado found that in schools with a certified librarian, students scored higher in reading and achieved higher increases in scores over time than schools without a certified librarian. Librarians are skilled teachers with a minimum of two years teaching experience. I can teach inquiry methods which enable students to have authentic learning experiences. Through collaborative partnerships with teachers, we can increase reading comprehension in all content areas and students receive better instruction. Co-teaching reduces teacher-to-student ratios and gives us the chance to provide students with more individualized attention. Co-teaching also allows for job-embedded professional development. When teachers and librarians work together, we create opportunities to learn from one another, improving practice. Studies have also shown that librarians which have the support of the administration have schools with students scoring higher overall, so I’d love to sit down with you to discuss some ideas I have for our library program. When can we meet?

Here is the preliminary Infographic: -I took the information from both the elevator speech as well as our annotate bibliographies… -I used graphics from the piktochart gallery -I’m probably going to change it from black and white… -I made up the bottom statement as per Michelle’s request, I’m not sure I like the way I phrased it, but I can rephrase it later… This is just a general idea….
Okay, I am having issues uploading the graphic.... I will email the jpg to both of you and look at the help features to figure this out...
